Little Girl Anime Power Rankings – Week 1

After the very abrupt introduction yesterday, it’s already time for the first week of rankings. I know. You couldn’t sleep last night in anticipation, right?

I’ll make a logo or something eventually….

But I won’t really scratch out too many intro words this week. Let’s go right to it and figure out how things went during the first week of business.

Previous Standings

1) PriPara – 10 Points
2) Happiness Charge Precure! – 0 Points
2) Aikatsu! – 0 Points
2) Lady Jewelpet – 0 Points

Well, it was week 0 after all. In case you forgot, I gave PriPara a friendly pat on the back for being the “newest” of the list of shows here. I don’t plan to award points like that anytime a series enters it’s new phase so you can just consider me being nice for the time being. But let’s see what points each show got this week.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Happiness Charge Precure! – +9 Points
2) Lady Jewelpet – +6 Points
3) Aikatsu! – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
So what’s the word on the placement? Let’s go down the overall standings and check out what happened.

Our hanging by a thread leader

So what’s up with PriPara this week? Not much. After forcibly having to speed up character development and realizing it, it seems like the staff had to do one of those episodes. Yep. That kind. The kind where a ton of things happen but nothing actually happens. You could call it a lead in to the next episode but the only real leading in it did happened in the last 2-3 minutes of the episode. And, as if you haven’t heard them enough, the staff didn’t just play one, or two, but all three of the stage songs you’ve heard up until this point. Maybe it’s all to lead up to a new song next week…probably not. While it wasn’t necessarily the worst episode PriPara has turned out, it just fell short of everything else.

Proving there’s still innocence in the world

Boasting a huge development, a new form, tons of action, and an overall really cute lesson; it’d be hard to say anything came close to stealing a best episode of the week spot from Happiness Charge. There are just those times that an episode manages to do about everything right. This is definitely the case. It’s wasn’t even a too far fetched character development episode either. Sure, it had a character we’ll probably never see again but at least it wasn’t something about having to care for some stray dog that will be returned to their owner at the end of the episode. In all honesty, this might have been one of my favorite episodes of Happiness Charge in it’s entire run. It was really solid and I hope there’s more of the same on the horizon.

No miracles happening this week

As Aikatsu! approaches it’s second season finale you’d think they’d have something big planned for the penultimate episode. Not really. I think most viewers could write this one off as a “We need to set up the third season properly” rather than trying to lead up to the finale. And it sucks to be honest. They had been building up the finale perfectly and the lead in to third season had basically all been in place. But rather than just having the events of this episode happen during the in-between timeline, they decided to make it it’s own episode. A shame because the stage performance was really great and there were a few moments that were fun to watch (which is why it’s saved from dead last). But Aikatsu! needs to brush itself off and make a really great finale if it doesn’t want to fall behind in the rankings early on.

Run of the mill isn’t always a bad thing

The last of the four and somehow managing a second place in the first week is Lady Jewelpet. It’s kind of hilarious because, comparatively, Lady Jewelpet was horrible this week when set against it’s past few weeks. But since the other shows insisted on being sub-par it actually managed to sneak by into second place. After weeks of building up a really climactic situation, it was kind of written off as just another crazy happening rather than turning into a huge confrontation. Well, it still might but it felt as if they wanted to do it NOW rather than later. So randomly pushing it forward felt a little silly. With that aside, Lady Jewelpet returned to it’s standard episode rather than the escalating drama that had been building up over the past few weeks. And it’s not a terrible thing. They still managed to sneak in small developments here and there to keep events relevant and it still had the good humor I’ve come to expect. With all that added together it’d be hard to say that it’s tiny problem is as annoying as what Aikatsu! and PriPara pulled.

So that’s about it for the first week. This will be the standard weekly formula and maybe I’ll make cooler graphics or something for some of the sections. But you can expect this kind of thing at the beginning of every week until I decide to start giving out bonus points, spicing things up, etc. I assure you I won’t just let things continue in this standard pattern forever. So look forward to it and I’ll see you guys next week.
