Little Girl Anime Power Rankings – Week 10

I realize it’s been awhile since I cracked a really bad (and by bad I mean amazing) joke via a screenshot. This week just happened to give me a really good chance; so you guys are just going to have to deal with it (again).

Who’s that Sakana?

It’s Buri!

Previous Standings

1) Aikatsu! – 62 Points
2) Lady Jewelpet – 57 Points
3) Happiness Charge Precure! – 44 Points
4) PriPara – 41 Points

There are positions being contested all over the board now. But the real hook is that Happiness charge is ending soon. And while that means a higher chance for good episodes, it also means it’ll have to worry about what next season has in store.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Happiness Charge Precure! – +9 Points
2) Lady Jewelpet – +6 Points
3) Aikatsu! – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
It was a bit of a slow week to say the least. While every show had some standout scene, it’s hard to say any episode screamed amazing. However, it was a lot easier to weed out what series really stood above the others this week. I can’t say I’m disappointed but I definitely expect better.

They’re grrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

Aikatsu! fell short this week not so much for being bad as much as lacking a real focus. The episode just spread itself a little too thin and, in the end, didn’t really build as much as it could have. On one end of the spectrum it felt as if it was an episode to build up Sumire’s character, but, at the same time, it put a lot of spotlight on Yurika and her character’s growth past the first season. At the end of the day it did feel as if they wanted the episode to focus more on Yurika but were just afraid to go through with it. I realize staff wants to put their foot down and make sure the new girls are getting their spotlight, but it doesn’t have to be so forced. It doesn’t exactly hurt to shift a little towards the older characters from time to time, especially in this case when it was still an episode about Sumire. It should have just been shot from Yurika’s point of view rather than the other way around. That and the apple thing was really weird. It was literally something they just threw in to give miscellaneous trivia about Sumire yet it never actually affected anything. Heck, they never even showed them eating the apples.

Please, think of the kids.

There are probably some things that you don’t need to teach kids. You know. Like the things that grownups do. Yes, it’s true. Every good date for adults begins with good food and ends in the bedroom. Well, at least they didn’t explain what happens past reaching the hotel. They still didn’t need to deliberately mention the luxurious bath and bed though.

The slightly disturbing side of the episode aside, Lady Jewelpet was just well rounded this week. Did it have a bit of strange magic that didn’t need to happen? Probably. And it was done almost entirely so they could crack one gag? You bet. But you learned a hell of a lot about what to do if you go to a sushi bar on a date. I’m pretty sure no kid who watches Lady Jewlpet is going to give a single care about the delicate process of ordering and eating sushi. But incompetent males like me need all the help we can get. So thank you Lady Jewelpet for opening up more secrets of refined living to us.

Way to offend God, Hime.

Precure’s position this week is more likely sealed by the effort put into it’s battle scene more so than anything else. Since everything else felt pretty average this week, Precure’s efforts put it above the average level that everything else seemed content with. So what else happened?

This was basically the final calm before the storm (or so they seem to indicate). Precure still has a bit of ways to go which is why I’m surprised to see them building up as much as they are. So unless they intend to do eight or nine more episodes of straight battles they’re going to have to figure something out. It would be a little odd if they have another relaxation or party episode planned that doesn’t have to do with post final battle. All in all, it was a cute episode and it was refreshing to see the “these characters have come this far” at a good stage of the game. It just feels as if they’re rushing a little too forward too early, and I just hope it doesn’t come to bite them later on.

Back to the grind.

Welp, here we are again. Rather than rehashing what I do almost every week with PriPara, let’s talk about Dorothy. Dorothy is a terrible character and I’m not even sure if any part of her was made to be likable. Annoying? Yes. Embarrassing? You bet. Frustrating? But of course. In fact it’s become hard to understand what the heck she’s even so bitchy about.

If you go back when there’s just the bitterness that she and Leona were turned down by Mirei. And then that team just so happened to sky rocket to being popular. And, if that’s the case with her, it makes her a pretty small minded person. Heck, Shion was holding the most minor grudge against Mirei yet managed to realize it and turn into a stable minded character. So whether Dorothy is still holding that minor grudge or just has the largest brother complex ever, she’s a crazy bitch. And that’s all there is to it. Dorothy is the only thing right now that makes Team Salad Dressing so unbearable. If she was somehow written off the team and it was only the pair of Leona and Shion, it wouldn’t be so bad. But the point is that her character is so detestable that it makes any episode where Salad Dressing gets screen time (which is about all of them) that much more painful.

Wrap-Up
Somehow I’ll be surprised if rankings look any different next week. To be perfectly honest, at this stage of the game this makes the most sense to me. Sure, there will be weeks when Aikatsu and PriPara shift places, but I don’t see either of them stealing second or third anytime soon. Actually, I’m just saying that because whenever I thrown down a challenge the staff seems to answer the call. So there’s the challenge staff. Get on it.
