Little Girl Anime Power Rankings – Week 13

It’s nice to see a lot of things picking up. Even if some of the developments aren’t great, at all all these shows are going somewhere. Somewhere. Let’s just hope all the final destinations will be worth the journey.

Nice photo album.

I question where some of those photos came from though.

A Word From the Big Man
This was a week that left me with another hard decision. I like hard decisions because it generally means I have to think about the fine details of what made me enjoy an episode.

Romantic but rushed.

Lady Jewelpet was pretty much second place material this week but just suffered from a few technical problems. It started off really strong but had a center segment that just got resolved all too fast. It’s pretty obvious they just wanted a easy way out to get Romeo to the Royal Palace and, honestly, I don’t see why they needed to send him so immediately. In fact, Romeo seemed like the best excuse to cut to the regular school every so often to check up on the old crew.

In the end, it just looks like they wanted to keep Romeo as a relevant character and struggled to find a good way to do as much. If you rule out that weird segment in the middle, then it was a really good episode. The problem is I just never like seeing a cop out. And Lady Jewelpet just pulled a pretty big one. Don’t get me wrong. It was a fun watch and even those convenient events were entertaining, but I can’t cut it too much slack just because of that. It’s also odd seeing Cayenne and Miura hanging out in the same room. But I really look forward to them going at it from this point on.

Lessons all around.

I believe Aikatsu! stole second place for bringing back a lot of what I loved about Aikatsu! in the first season. It’s not just fun to watch but it’s a pretty damn educational experience. It was one of those lovely episodes where they cover something that normal idols do and how the procedure works. And, not only did they go into what idols do, but what fans can do (as well as the proper procedure for that). It’s not nonsense. It doesn’t try hard to be silly. It just gives you the straight facts in an entertaining and easy to stomach fashion.

This episode was a lot like the Halloween episode without the fanservice that made the Halloween episode explode. It was well rounded and used both new and old characters effectively. It created a really simple story that you could digest and enjoy and did a good job of teaching the characters how to be be better idols. With the small bumps that Lady Jewelpet ran into, I felt like Aikatsu! deserved second place for being a really consistent episode. Even if Lady Jewelpet had a lot of excitement in some segments, it didn’t have the complete feeling that Aikatsu! did.

Black History never looked so pink.

I could write a entire post about how great Precure was this week. But, instead, let’s make it really short.

A really great climax battle paired with a great soundtrack and visuals. It also has some great developments on the way that could make the last few episodes an amazing watch.

The best episode the series has pulled off thus far, to say the least.

There’s no “like” buried in my hate.

PriPara this week was like the evil version of Lady Jewelpet. A lot of convenient developments so they could get something done, but with nothing really being that interesting or setup very well. With everything being so memorable this week it’s pretty easy to push PriPara to the back of my mind. Maybe next week will be interesting. Maybe not. But this week doesn’t matter.

I can see Precure finally slowing down a bit next week and finally leaving an opening for another show to steal first place. Not saying it’ll happen, but I can see it laying off of any serious battles until the final few episodes in January.
