Little Girl Anime Power Rankings – Week 24

It’s just one of those weeks.

At least there was a cool transformation.

And it’s hard to call that a highlight.

Previous Standings

1) Aikatsu! – 225 Points
2) Lady Jewelpet – 220 Points
3) Go! Princess Precure – 212 Points
4) PriPara – 162 Points

Thanks to the bonus from last week, Aikatsu! manages to dethrone Lady Jewelpet from it’s 2015 reign. Who knows how long it’ll last in that top spot with how the past few weeks have been going.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Lady Jewelpet – +9 Points
2) Aikatsu! – +6 Points
3) Go! Princess Precure – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
I feel like I have very little to say this week. Actually, can we just pretend this week didn’t really happen?

The rise and fall of Miyabi.

Aikatsu! manages to score another satisfying result thanks to Miyabi. Sadly, this is also the last time that’s probably going to happen for awhile. I don’t really know why they wrote in and wrote out Miyabi so fast but hopefully it’s a reason better than them just being afraid to have more Soras and Marias. Miyabi was honestly a fun character to watch even if there was nothing that special about her. And I think that’s how I described ever single episode about her. There’s nothing incredibly flashy or made to stand out about them but they’re just generally fun episodes to watch.

This week was just another case of Miyabi syndrome but I think, because it was a parting, that there was some really heartfelt moments. It honestly just makes me wish that I knew someone who did the weather and was as adorable as Akari. Sure that’s never going to happen, but it’s nice to dream sometimes. If I knew I could get up in the morning and have someone tell me my day is going to be sunny sounds really nice. And I’d honestly be a morning person if that situation ever presented itself.

She’s real. I promise.

This is one of those weeks where I wanted to pluck Ruby and Luea out of an episode. It’s pretty obvious that Lady Jewelpet realizes it’s doing things that aren’t exactly fit for little girls to watch. And they sometimes just have Ruby and Luea there just so they can interject into conversations to say something silly (only for one to call the other out on it). That was incredibly evident this week just because it was an episode dedicated to explain what was up.

That small little tidbit aside, it was actually a pretty nice setup into what I assume will be the final section of the series. It was obvious they weren’t going to just laugh off what happened in this episode’s events and jump to a conclusion. I’m just a little concerned that they’re going to push too fast again. They still have a good margin of episodes and it only takes two (even one) end series episodes to really ruin a series. Let’s not forget that Happiness Charge managed to bury itself really quickly in it’s final hours.

You’re probably wondering why Lady Jewelpet is ranked so high when I have so little to say about the episode itself. The point is, it was another episode that was just meant to clean up and finish out the large scale events in the series. But since it’s entirely based on a dialogue between characters I can’t say much other than that it was interesting.

I read the instructions.

I want to get it out of the way that I don’t think Kirara is a boring character. But it’s just generally because of how they’ve themed Princess Precure that all of the characters have to be dream factories. I get it. Chase your dreams, reach for the stars. It’s a really good lesson, but it’s kind of lame when every character is going to press on it so hard. These are just character introduction episodes mind you. Just imagine when we get to character development arcs, this lesson is going to get really old really damn fast. Once we’ve hit the third iteration of character development episodes and you’ve heard the “chase your dreams” lesson for the 30th time you’re going to look back at me and nod.

It just wasn’t a fun episode to watch and it just felt like a fairly lazy character introduction. They didn’t do much with Kirara to make her interesting other than presenting her as eye candy. And maybe it’s because her arc is meant to be stretched across two episodes. And just maybe she’ll be a lot more interesting in next week’s episode. But we’re talking about the now and now isn’t very interesting. Let me not forget to mention that Cure Twinkle got pretty ripped off on her action scene. Naturally, nobody is going to get as nice of a display as Flora did in the first episode. But I feel like even Mermaid had a short little moment where she got to show off. They really didn’t give Twinkle any complex animations to be really flashy. Just an all around disappointment.

Just in case you forgot nothing has happened.

Remember a bit back when I complimented Lady Jewelpet for managing to do a recap episode while presenting it in a clever way mixed with new content? Yeah, that was great. Too bad PriPara is far from creative enough to do that. So am I really going to bother to comment on a stereotypical recap episode that reminds you of nothing significant and just highlights that no one has actually developed as a character? Take a guess (the answer is no).

Wrap-Up
I think there was some really good things this week. But when the bad outweighs the good so heavily it really is uninspiring enough to drag the mood down.
