Little Girl Anime Power Rankings – Week 40

This post would have probably been posted a lot earlier if the Sony conference hadn’t been timed where it was. I really just didn’t have any foresight and didn’t expect to actually get caught watching it. Moving on.

Water is good for you.

It’s basically Summer, right? Stay hydrated everyone.

A Word From the Big Man
I thought about doing a tie this week, but I still felt like it wasn’t a situation where I really needed it. It was just an issue of two episodes that didn’t really do anything spectacular.

Even Ran didn’t have to go through this.

So in case you were wondering, the tie would have happened between PriPara and Aikatsu. Why? Even if PriPara was a fluff episode, Aikatsu might as well have been called a fluff episode. Sure, this is the middle of the unit cup, but it’s not really being held as much of a competition as it is a way to show off the units a little more. On account half the episode was spent on drinking water and finding a cure for hiccups, I really don’t think I need to say that much more. I think the real important part of the episode is that it actually set up something for next week. And that’s really all there is to it.

Buy Splatoon for the WiiU now! No, there’s no kappas in it.

This week was another one of those weird weeks for Jewelpet. I don’t know exactly what they were going for but it didn’t piece together that well. It was just kind of like those early episodes of PriPara that failed to define a good sense of humor and just kind of threw out a ton of incomplete jokes. So it essentially felt as if they spent half an hour on a incomplete thought.

That’s not a horse, that’s a UMA.

After the light train wreck last week, Precure kind of brought it back this week with a franchise staple episode. It’s time for the, “Take a trip to the source of evil and pick some fights and learn some things” episode. But you more or less saw all of this coming and all the small reveals that happened probably won’t shock you. Since Jewelpet was so lackluster and this did have some development, I more or less decided it deserved a spot at three. But even the fluff of PriPara and Aikatsu was more exciting.

That’s also not how cardboard works.

I’ve never really felt like PriPara fluff has ever been great, but it actually felt like they did something right this week. Something that the staff has been due for since the beginning of the series. Why not make the rival team look a little better? Heck, even Aroma and Mikan were made to look like better and more appealing characters by the end of their arc. But this is legitimately the first episode that made Salad Dressing look like decent human beings. Just maybe this staff is onto something.

So this week was technically a lot of flip flopping but it wasn’t anything crazy. Compared to the past few weeks it was maybe a little underwhelming, but it’s definitely far from the worse that’s shown up on this countdown.
