Little Girl Anime Power Rankings – Week 50

So LGAPR has finally hit the big five-o. If this were a standard yearly series, then chances are this would be the final episode before the new season starts. But we haven’t exactly reached that turnover yet. Aren’t you happy? You get an extra episode.

That’s pretty impressive for a girl her age.

The real shocking thing about this scene was how tightly fit Akari’s pants were.

Previous Standings

1) Aikatsu! – 408 Points
2) Jewelpet Magical Change – 373 Points
3) Go! Princess Precure – 313 Points
4) PriPara – 239 Points

Sometimes nothing happening is just as exciting as a lot happening. No? I don’t think so either.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Jewelpet Magical Change – +9 Points
2) Go! Princess Precure – +6 Points
3) Aikatsu! – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
Don’t let the results fool you; this week was bonkers.

Who has the best development of the main three? M. E.

I have to admit that I always look forward to Hinaki episodes. When it comes to the main group she’s had some of the best development episodes (even historically). I don’t know if it’s her character, or just how she reacts to everything, but Hinaki just seems to spawn these really heartwarming and really fun to watch development episodes. It’s like watching Akari’s development at the end of Season 2 but staying within the realm of realism. So why is such a charming development episode locked at the third spot this week? I honestly feel bad. But shows have been screwed before because other series just have overall better episodes. Aikatsu! was really good this week and it really broke a streak of some sub par episodes, but it really just didn’t have any specific oomph to put it over the shows in the one and two spots.

Don’t you wish you could make a job out of standing in line?

Magical Change probably doesn’t really deserve to take the number one post this week, but it really was just so sharp that it blew my mind. There are just those times when a show is so cleanly done that it’s untouchable. I think every show on the rankings has had one of those episodes, and this is definitely that episode for Magical Change. From beginning to end, Jewelpet was just flat out well done. The first part had the cute, the second part was just incredibly clever (alongside having a smothering of fanservice), and the extra was just plain traumatizing. You roll it all together and it combines all the things that makes Jewelpet the series that it is. How can I say no?

Nothing says intense action like hurdling over a cleanly trimmed hedge.

I really appreciated Princess Precure this week. It’s actually doing a general plot movement and finally got away from direct character focus. We’ve been at it for awhile and it’s about time the show climaxes again. And, for once, it feels like a well justified and well placed conflict. By golly, they even kept Towa out of it. Who would have thought the main three still mattered and weren’t just development vessels for Towa? I don’t know what Precure plans to do next and how long this conflict is going to keep up for, but I just hope it doesn’t mean that it’s on the route to burning out early like it’s predecessor. The biggest flaw to note of this week’s episode is that the action scene was incredibly downplayed. I’m sure they’re saving it for the next (few?) weeks, but it feels like they’ve used budget in some weird places this year. I think this would have probably been a good place to spend some since it was a interestingly significant fight.

Your clone bit me in the butt!

I already mentioned my issues with Falulu and her general trait of being a giant gaping black hole of suck no matter what scenario they force on her. This short two episode fiasco just brings us back to that point. This tangent (as of now) accomplished completely nothing. And the real problem is it’s potentially irrelevant fluff happening after a fairly big plot movement. So big that they deliberately had to remind kids what was going on during the next episode preview rather than talk about the next episode. And that’s probably because next week is still staying completely irrelevant to the main plot as well. I sometimes feel like I don’t need to make fun of PriPara because it does a pretty good job of doing it to itself. I give it credit when it’s due, but no other show falls off harder when it comes to piecing together the a puzzle.

Wrap-Up
Remember how I said last week that everything had a direction except Jewelpet? And now Jewelpet goes ahead and manages to completely dethrone everyone during a well above average week. What’s even funnier is that I said PriPara had a direction when it obviously took a right turn at Albuquerque. Yeah, sometimes I expect a lot better (and worse) of things then I should.
