Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 2 – Week 10

I think this is the first week where I’ve watched more than two of these shows when they aired. Probably because there was a lot of motivation to, and I’m just starting to find that the air times (particularly Aikatsu! and PriPara) are a lot more convenient than they were before DST.

You write out BNP and read it as Sunrise.

And you thought last week was scary. Bet you never thought a giant mechanical sea otter was gonna send you to the next dimension.

Previous Standings

1) Aikatsu! – 57 Points
2) Go! Princess Precure – 52 Points
3) Jewelpet Magical Change – 43 Points
4) PriPara – 36 Points

Precure continues to keep itself a step in front of Jewelpet. And Pripara just doesn’t like marathons.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Aikatsu! – +9 Point
2) Jewelpet Magical Change – +6 Points
3) Go! Princess Precure – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
This week is more or less better than last week. Which is really cool on account that I talked up last week quite a bit. I just think that there was a really good episode and the other episodes were surprisingly close to it in terms of fun.

I have Domon on hold Akari; I think he might be upset.

So in the long history of Aikatsu we’ve had more than our fair share of drama episodes. I probably just have to write, “It was a drama episode” this week and it would probably be reason in itself for why Aikatsu took first place. But I guess the really funny thing about this week is that Aikatsu was always animated by Sunrise before. And when you say Sunrise series, people are probably going to start listing mecha series before anything else. And, usually, when Sunrise gets to have fun in shows that aren’t mecha they’ve always went out of their way to do silly mecha stuff when given the chance. So it’s really funny that after a fraction of the staff splits off to form BNP, they finally decide to do a mecha drama for Aikatsu. And, what more could you really ask for? Sure, not EVERYONE showed up despite it being an all star drama, but they already had to put forth some effort to get everyone in. There’s really never been a drama that disappointed. And with Sunrise mecha sense and a great insert song, how could a guy like me file a complaint?

You mean I get to be the main character again?

Naturally, Precure dropped off pretty hard after last week. Was it still a fairly solid episode? Yeah. But I think the real issue is that it was just a fairly mid key character development episode that put forth a potentially crumby development. I don’t know if they’re really going to have them go and free every temple to lead up until the finale. I really hope they don’t intend to. But if that’s the decision they came upon instead of just drawing out other things, that’s incredibly disgusting. The flow of this week was just average, and I think Magical Change managed to be a little more amusing in terms of the magical girl department this week.

I guess they reached the limit of times they could show Airi naked in the tub.

Rather than doing two parts that are essentially the same episode, Jewelpet finally cut the crap and just did one big episode for once. And, while it was nothing special, it actually managed to tie together all the series concepts pretty darn well. Yeah, the main story of Magical Change is only so relevant, but it does still exist. And I won’t lie. I even tweeted out how predictable the episode was going to flesh out. But sometimes predictable isn’t always a bad thing. No matter how sappy and predictable an episode ending is, the fun part is getting there. And getting there was honestly pretty darn amusing. Yeah, it seems weird of me to put a predictable episode in second place. Honestly, Precure and Jewelpet kinda did the same kind of episode this week. But where Jewelpet was predictable, Precure was just throwing out random potential developments that I really don’t want to see.

I know. It’s a fire engine, right?

I don’t really have much to say about PriPara this week. I really enjoyed last week, and I really don’t think they needed to do a drop off for a sappy episode that had no real meaning. Let’s be honest, Nao has never been a really big support character to Lala when it really comes down to it. They effectively wrote her out of the plot for the first arc because she couldn’t enter PriPara, and getting her in was basically an objective for Lala. So, even if she was something to fight for, she was really just a hollow character. She’s had a few episodes here and there, but it hasn’t helped to make her anymore relevant than she was during the first arc. If Nao had been a part of the main cast than maybe it would have had some impact. But it was really just a throwaway to show the Prince getting mad at Lala…again.

Wrap-Up
I guess it would be a lot to ask for three great weeks in a row, but I’m still going to do it.
