Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 2 – Week 15

So, unlike last year, there’s only half of the actual Christmas episodes this week. But I can’t really go on next week about wishing you guys a Merry Christmas after the fact. So Merry Christmas and all that. Let’s just forget about that and let the lovely girls from the Princess Precure crew deliver you a holiday number.

It beats Beethoven Christmas music.

It’s not quite The Ronettes, but I think they at least work the Santa getup pretty nicely.

A Word From the Big Man
I can’t speak much in the way of holiday miracles, but this week sure doesn’t feel Christmas-y at all.

Happy New Year! Wait…what?

Aikatsu this week was one of those educational cute fests that happens from time to time that I really like. They’ve really covered a lot of small details about the New Years in previous seasons, and I guess they found this would be a good time to look at it in the way of holiday programming. Of course, I’d expect more networks to be concerned with Christmas programming at this time and not the New Years just yet. Oh well. The real nice thing is the entire episode is generally shot from the perspective of Nono and Lisa, who have been getting the shaft little by little lately. It’s also getting your prepared for that inevitable all star Christmas episode that is most likely incoming next week.

Next on ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas.

This episode was really split between nothing and nothing. I don’t think it was a terrible character episode, but I really don’t think the intensity of it stacks up to Kirara’s two weeks ago. Most of Minami’s conflict happened last episode as well, and it really just left a really weak followup this week. And, of course, it all happened during Christmas. I think someone in the staff just thought, “hey, might as well put them in Santa outfits and have them perform a weird Christmas number”. I think they could have done a little bit more to make it festive and dramatic, but it really just felt like one of those really shallow Christmas holiday movies that Hallmark put up $200 to make.

F is for friends who do stuff together…

Hibiki has been assembling her team of extraordinary geniuses for the past few episodes and the only real option left to her was the Aromageddon duo. So it was pretty optimal timing to finally give Mikan some limelight on account Aroma has been the center of about every Aromageddon centered arc. It sure wasn’t Christmas-y (all the Christmas of it was an afterthought), but it was at least very, very cute. And I can’t really flaw PriPara for not making a Christmas episode if the main focus of it was solid and did it’s job. But I would be 100% more likely to give the Christmas award to Precure just because it had a lot more elements that made it work with the holidays. It wouldn’t have hurt PriPara to use the same guitar line as always, add some jingle bells, write some cheesy lyrics, and call it a Christmas song. But performing the usual thing in Santa outfits really, really doesn’t cut it for a Christmas live.

Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?

You know, Jewelpet was really just like PriPara this week, and it’s mainly a problem of it having it’s finale fall smack dab in the middle of the holiday season. But, unlike PriPara, Christmas hasn’t actually occurred in Jewelpet and they could easily pair the finale with it’s Christmas episode. This week was just buildup to the eventual finale, and hopefully it all works out for the best. I’m really going to miss Jewelpet writing, and it’s really a shame they have to go out so awkwardly. But this week was at least fun, and hopefully they can follow it up next week with a very Jewelpet Christmas Finale.

Wrap-Up
So I realize this is supposed to be the Christmas post, but unfortunately the holiday was pretty absent this week. Maybe the two remaining shows that haven’t done Christmas will pull something out to snatch the award away from the two who attempted it this week.
