Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 2 – Week 16

Unfortunately, getting back from a somewhat lengthy vacation meant it being really hard to catchup and get this post up. But it’s still up now and covers the rest of the Christmas wrap up you were waiting for. You can also maybe expect the end of the year point distribution to happen sometime next week because everything is on vacation except PriPara (who is actually off this week). And I’ll probably discuss what’s going to go on from here on out as well.

Goodbye you fluffy, obnoxious white rabbit.

And thanks for the seven years.

Previous Standings

1) Aikatsu! – 96 Points
2) Go! Princess Precure – 73 Points
3) PriPara – 70 Points
4) Jewelpet Magical Change – 63 Points

We’ll just have to see where Magical Change falls after the end of the year points are handed out. It might be in last now but it’s also the one show that never had a sick day all year.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Jewelpet Magical Change – +9 Points
2) Aikatsu! – +6 Points
3) Go! Princess Precure – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
Rather than bringing in the New Year it’s more like we’re finishing out Christmas. Hmmm.

Social media at it’s finest.

Aikatsu has had a rather strong history behind it’s Christmas episodes, and it’s generally just based on the fact that they’ve always been just a little bit ridiculous. And while I had no real issue with this year’s Christmas bonanza, I just don’t feel it had the same oomph as other years. Sure, the happenings of it were rather ridiculous, but it just felt mixed in with all the other things they were trying to throw into the mix. I think the episode would have really benefited from them just focusing on one thing, and that thing was probably not to be the end of the tour. It was kind of the catalyst for the entire episode, but they really could have come up with any other reason to do the snow relay. I did really feel that the episode just felt like something that just fell on Christmas and a miracle was involved. But I’d hardly call it anymore Christmas-y than what PriPara did last week.

Do you wanna build a snow castle? I’ll watch.

The series is coming to a close and Princess Precure is really running out of time. So, I guess now was the only real time they could give Shut his last hurrah before what happens happens to him. Frankly, it just wasn’t much of anything. Usually you’d expect some reason for a huge confrontation between a main villain and a character. Or, in the case of Precure, Shut kicks over Towa’s snow castle because he’s having a bad day. It’s obvious something bigger is planned for Shut’s character in the coming future, but this week was more of a joke than anything else.

Sure is quieter this week.

I know it’s much to ask, but PriPara could have really benefit from not skipping a week and making a dedicated Christmas episode. You know, something that doesn’t just have a Christmas afterthought at the end. But Aikatsu set aside an episode for Christmas and still managed to pull nothing out. So maybe it’s just not a great year for holiday specials.

All Jewelpets go to…somewhere.

Magical Change and the Jewelpet franchise (as far as we know) comes to a bit of an abrupt end this week. I can’t say that I’m in the staff’s head and know what’s going on, but it somewhat feels like they were thinking they’d get a full year to work with. Jewelpet really just wrapped everything up and put it under the tree this year. And hopefully the series isn’t just thrown aside completely now that Sanrio/Sega is turning out a new project. Jewelpet is probably the most unique thing to run in this ranking, and it’s writing and style is something that’s been carried from when it first originated. So it really is a shame to see another series preserving that style fade away.

I can’t say I know what the new project will be like, but I can’t imagine they’ll bring back any of the old if they want to really make it something new. All I can do is hope that some of the staff that worked on the series turn to something new and bring the humor they rolled into Jewelpet with them. I also decided to give Jewelpet the Christmas award because, frankly, it had the most Christmas in it. Almost no series had a raving amount of Christmas in it, but at least Jewelpet was sappy and had the Christmas miracle rolled in. So while it’s predecessor came close to it last year, Magical Change gets to walk away with the 10 point bonus for 2016 and it’s head held high.

Wrap-Up
I won’t to see you guys until the year rolls over so Happy New Year. Just remember that the first post of 2016 is going to be really empty just like this year.
