Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 2 – Week 37

Welcome to “Who’s the target audience anyway?” where everything is made up and the points are a vague indicator of how good a show is. That’s right. It doesn’t matter how much you fuck up because bonus points will always cover your ass. Right, PriPara?

I will name him George, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him.

You’re hurting me. Put me down, please.

Previous Standings

1) Aikatsu Stars! – 302 Points
2) Mahou Tsukai Precure! – 234 Points
3) PriPara – 230 Points
4) Rilu Rilu Fairilu – 183 Points

MahoPri finally clawed it’s way to second place, but it’s gotta work a little harder before it can hold that position with confidence.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Aikatsu Stars! – +9 Points
2) Rilu Rilu Fairilu – +6 Points
3) PriPara – +3 Points
4) Mahou Tsukai Precure! – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
I’m pretty happy to say that it’s was a good recovery week for almost everything. It might be weird to see Precure in last place, but I think you could have seen it coming with the recent flow of things.

I give Rola credit for appreciating the classics…no matter how bad they are.

I don’t know if Stars has really managed to “find itself” just yet (an ironic thing to say given the subject matter of this week), but I think this episode might have helped line it up a little more for the shot. I think I just like the all around timing of it. Stars has done a great job to keep Yume in the picture for awhile, but it was coming to a good point to start focusing on other characters. Any odd quirks that come out of Rola and Koharu at this point work to the benefit of keeping the main cast interesting, and that’s something that’ll be really important from here on out. Honestly, this episode didn’t feel too far off something you would have gotten in the original series. And it turns out the original Aikatsu series is a pretty good one to mimic when it comes to character development episodes.

Of course I’m not a spotlight hog. You’re imagining things.

Precure is slowly but surely coming on the halfway point, yet it feels like it’s still having trouble escaping it’s slow pacing as of recent. Yes, this episode did something with the villains, and it seems like they might actually start some actual evil doing. But the main story is going to have to start coming in a bit heavier if staff doesn’t want to suffer later on (and just to spice things up a bit). No matter how you slice this week, it was still an episode that fed into Rico’s development. And when everything else is trying to break the mold, it’s a little hard to give Precure credit for continuing to play it safe. I’d like to see them focus on dedicating the next fifteen or so episodes to the main plot and I feel the remaining episodes will fall into place afterwards.

Get me away from this spawn of Satan. No, I’m referring to the baby.

PriPara was saved from last place this week on the backs of it’s only good gag characters. While I don’t think Garuru adds anything to the duo that wasn’t present before, she more or less completes that Three Stooges position that everybody loves. And yes, we’re still doing the child rearing thing. But since the child rearing thing is all about shitty gags anyway, it works a lot better when you have your actual gag characters handling it. It’s also nice that the three actually got punished for their mischief this time around, since they stole a metric ton of Valentine’s day candy last season and managed to essentially get off scot-free.

At least she’s an adorable evil spider girl that uses black magic.

Fairilu managed to have one of those well balanced weeks again. I really wish I had something special to say about it, but it’s kind of like all those times that Magical Change just stole top spots. You don’t have to do anything out of the box to be on the top, you just have to be entertaining. But I will admit it’s nice to see “Meet the Fairilu” episodes that seem to have a lot more personality than usual. It might just help that the main cast is really familiar by now.

Wrap-Up
Overall, I really enjoyed the week. While I don’t think anything was mind blowing, I’d rather have the majority of shows be above average than one being outstanding and the rest being crap.
