A Word From the Big Man
So the expected pretty much happened. Fairilu has been knocking on the second place door for awhile, and it was just a matter of Aikatsu letting them in. Or maybe you were under the illusion that PriPara might suck less for their 100th episode? Psh.

I too consider napping the greatest of pastimes.

If the Headmaster had another one of his weird moments last week, then Hime had her incredibly weird moment this week. I don’t know why she suddenly becomes sickly when it rains, but it’s a little too much on the fantastical side. The worst part is that you know it’s going to come back and bite someone in the butt later. I’ve said it several times, but I really don’t know what Stars is after most of the time. It’s fine if it wants to have a little more of a fantasy aspect, but I think it mixes in a little too much realism to the point that things get awkward. Sure, it was nice to see more of Hime’s character, but it was a fairly meh episode across the board.

Precure teaches the practical magic of killing the atmosphere.

Precure continues to do exactly what it needs to do and earns a top spot by doing so. And, most importantly, it finally gave us a hint at who Dokurokushe actually is. The answer was very brief, but I think that’s exactly what you want at this stage. The series is only halfway in and there’s a lot of space they can reserve for explanations. So I really appreciate that the staff didn’t take out an entire episode to show us a backstory that we can get slowly but surely as we work towards the finale. Instead, we were generally left with more questions than answers, and that’s incredibly important to increase potential episode content down the road. The best part is we’re still in the middle of this mini-climax and might be for another couple of weeks. And even if I did criticize how much time was spent on Rico, I still believe MahoPri is displaying a really amazing sense of pacing when it really matters.

“Hundred” starts to sound really weird when you say it enough times.

You know, PriPara could have potentially done a really stupid off the wall episode to celebrate their 100th and I wouldn’t have said anything. Instead, we babysit. But we just don’t babysit, we babysit and see how many times we can say or display “100” while doing it. If you really wanted to celebrate your 100th episode that much you should have just slashed what ideas you had and worked in a pure gag episode.

Nothing like getting the stink eye from your female classmates.

Fairilu continues to hold strong in delivering both the gags and the lessons for kids. Honestly, I probably enjoyed last week more, but I still had a smile on my face after watching this week. I’ll just probably never be able to think of the first part as anything more than a reject Pokemon episode. But on account it’s a Sanrio anime, they probably fully intended that part to look as such.

I won’t say that Precure will be getting knocked out of first place next week, but I’m sure the battle for second place will rage on.
