Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 3 – Week 3

The new season (of anime) kicks off this weekend. It might actually be a good thing since there’s a very strong smell of suck coming from this week of LGAPR.

Ako, what big claws you have.

This week proves that Ako isn’t self aware that she randomly turns into a cat. This further proves my theory that Ako is insane and deserves more screen time.

1) PriPara – 14 Points
2) Rilu Rilu Fairilu – 12 Points

A Word From the Big Man
If you really wanted my honest summary of this week, then it would be that everything was completely disgusting outside of Fairilu. It’s actually kind of pathetic.

Hibiki ponders migrating to a better show.

I could probably compliment PriPara about how they didn’t completely finish out Hibiki’s development yet. But the point is the majority of this episode was a joke, and I really just couldn’t find a situation where I could ever give a damn. There was about three minutes of Hibiki developing, seven minutes of performances, and the rest was spent on some really terrible jokes. So outside of those three minutes it wasn’t too much different than what PriPara’s been doing for the past months.

How to get first place without even trying.

Who would thought all you had to do was not turn out a shitty episode and you can get a first place finish? While Fairilu this week was an overall cute episode dedicated to Sumire’s development, I don’t think it was anything that special. But that doesn’t change the fact that everything else was complete garbage and Fairilu was honestly the only fun thing to watch when all was said and done.

My only advice to Fairilu is to keep doing what it’s doing. If every other show keeps going down the same path as right now, not a single one is going to contest Fairilu from getting a healthy lead at the start of the season. And change your damn opening. I’m happy they chose the same animation style for the new ED, but it still bothers me that they keep dropping perfectly fitting EDs, but retain a OP that doesn’t set the proper pace for the show. It’s such a cute show that I feel like the opening should be something perky to gets the kids excited.

(Don’t) Leave it to Rico.

Precure is in a horrendous spot right now, and it’s still not showing any near signs of recovery. It’s starting to feel like they had put a ton of planning into the first half of the series, but somehow forgot they had another 20+ episodes that came after that. The real issue is the core of Precure this year, and what makes it particularly shine, is the atmosphere. The world they had constructed to introduce the series was astounding, and you can tell from the visuals and soundtrack that it was meant to be the heart of the series. So when you remove all those elements and force it into a normal setting there’s absolutely nothing that sets it apart from the other series.

Continuing to focus on characters that the audience has hardly seen isn’t going to help the situation either. They really did go for a long shot by tying Mirai’s past actions into the episode, but that just doesn’t fly. Whether it be focusing more on making the villains evil or pushing Kotoha’s development, Precure should be trying about anything else right now. There’s still a long stretch before the series should start climaxing, and it’s not too late to turn around and break away from the same grind that we’ve seen on a yearly basis.

At least she didn’t karate chop the eggs in half or anything.

I will be perfectly honest in saying that I have zero clue as to what Stars wanted to do this week. I think it was supposed to be some kind of epilogue to the movie now that it’s probably leaving theaters, and anybody who wanted to see it has already done so. The problem is it’s in such an awkward place in the series that you leave the episode confused as to whether or not you had tuned into the wrong show. This is technically the end of the first half of Stars, so I guess they just wanted to slow things down a bit. But it really just turned into an incredibly awkward half an hour.

And this is the odd case where a recap episode would have just been more feasible. The little cake making story was the strangest thing I think you could have ever worked into the series, and it was probably just better to fill all of that time with Yume and the others recapping what they’ve actually done so far. I realize they haven’t done all that much, but it would have been a better fit.

It’s sadly easy to write these when there’s hardly anything good to say about majority of the shows.
