Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 3 – Week 8

Happy Halloween everyone. It’s actually pretty cool that we get to do a post on Halloween and give away the Halloween award rightfully as all four shows were eligible. I love when things come together so perfectly.

What a hoax. Kids don’t go door to door anymore.

Okay, so I feel really bad about covering Sumire’s face like that. I tried a lot of things, but I’m not shrinking the font for one week or it’ll piss me off for an eternity.

Previous Standings

1) Mahou Tsukai Precure! – 45 Points
2) Rilu Rilu Fairilu – 34 Points
3) Aikatsu Stars! – 33 Points
4) PriPara – 31 Points

PriPara is really trying it’s hardest to stay afloat, and it’s not doing a horrible job of it.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Mahou Tsukai Precure! – +9 Points
2) Rilu Rilu Fairilu – +6 Points
3) Aikatsu Stars! – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
The awkward thing about this week is that Precure and Stars showed up early to the Halloween party. The problem is Stars left early and then only three members actually partied. But with the Halloween episode Stars had, it would have only ruined the party.

Subtlety was not the goal of this episode.

So there’s no real argument that Precure’s previous episode was better in the fun department. But this week still boasted an entertaining Halloween episode as well as what turned out to be a fairly important story episode. Precure has really wiggled out of it’s struggle state, and I feel like they managed to recapture the original charm of the series. Particularly, the ability to weave plot into the more unexpected episodes. And I kind of appreciate it because two completely goofy episodes in a row wouldn’t have been the smartest choice given where the series is.

I’m still kind of pissed that the Headmaster had to essentially tease Mirai’s grandmother all episode though. You can’t just lead an old woman on like that and expect me to think you’re a good person. And if they share no more dialogue together for the rest of the series, I’ll be legitimately angry. I’m kind of joking right now, but they can’t keep bringing this up without having some kind of conclusion by the end of the series.

Even when you factor out the previous week, I still feel I enjoyed Precure the most out of all the Halloween episodes. So I’m handing over the 2016 Halloween Award to it along with the bonus +10 points that the award includes.

When dumb meets dumber.

Just like Precure, Fairilu told two different Halloween stories. The big difference is Fairilu naturally packed it into one episode. Actually, there was a lot of weird unexplained things that kind of happened in this week’s Fairilu, but it was still entertaining. Lip is usually forced to be the stupid one, so seeing her babysitting a unaware Nozomu was quite out of the ordinary. The second half was a bit more story heavy than fun, and it mostly builds on the love triangle going on with Nozomu, Yumiri (Lip), and Mio. Actually, we still don’t know what Mio did with that photo of Yumiri, but I’m sure it will surface again at an awkward moment.

I’m sensing some symbolism here.

Stars returns from it’s Halloween vacation to continue to push out story in full force. This week returns to Rola and Yume’s rivalry and, particularly, to Rola’s individual development. I really did enjoy the episode, and it really seems to solidify that they want Rola to be a secondary main character rather than just a rival. If that somehow isn’t their intention, then I really wonder why they want to spend all this time making Rola’s character so strong. Because, at this point, Rola’s character has a load more to it than Yume, and this episode made Yume appear more as the main antagonist of the series.

They spent the rest of the episode planning something for Koharu’s character, and it’s actually quite a mystery what that plan might be. Writing Koharu out of the cast temporarily isn’t a good or bad decision, but it’s ultimately decided with how they choose to bring her back into the series later down the line.

Shin Shin Godzilla.

PriPara brings back Ran for another sub-par Halloween episode. It was probably better than the Stars Halloween special, but that’s really not saying much.

Wrap-Up
Precure is taking an off week next week. That’s about it.
