Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 3 – Week 19

Just another week in the New Year.

Deus Tarou

I always knew shitty comedians were all just evil and out to devour the essence of every living thing on the planet.

Previous Standings

1) Mahou Tsukai Precure! – 190 Points
2) Rilu Rilu Fairilu – 144 Points
3) Aikatsu Stars! – 138 Points
4) PriPara – 133 Points

PriPara’s sick day helped it get a little closer to Aikatsu, but that’s really not going to get it anywhere in the long run.

Weekly Point Distribution

1) Mahou Tsukai Precure! – +9 Points
2) Aikatsu Stars! – +6 Points
3) Rilu Rilu Fairilu – +3 Points
4) PriPara – +1 Point

A Word From the Big Man
An overall above average week. I don’t think anything was standout amazing, but I’d prefer everything be enjoyable rather than one lone standout.

Magical broadcast hijacking.

Precure this week just finished out it’s final stages before the finale. I’m actually still not sure if it has one or two episodes left, but it left itself on a good foot after this week that either would work out for it (the latter obviously being more preferable). This season of Precure has really not been about the action element, so I feel like there was just enough this week that they don’t have to worry about dedicating all of the next week to an all out battle. And while I don’t think the past two weeks have been particularly groundbreaking on a standalone level, it will all pay off in spades next week if Precure walks the path it’s been projecting.

I wouldn’t say it did anything to particularly deserve it, but Precure probably had the best episode to start the 2017 year after seeing what PriPara put out this week. So you can expect to see it’s lead go up by another +10 points as of next week.

When eggplants go bad.

The actual purpose of this week’s Fairilu episode is still a bit of a mystery to me, but it’s hard to say it wasn’t enjoyable. It’s just another case of Anchusa’s actions being a general mystery, and the main cast not having any real quarrel with what she may or may not be plotting in the background. Anchusa could probably openly say that she’s plotting to enslave the entire human world and everyone would just shake their heads and laugh it off. But I guess if you had to take away one thing it’s that Lip could potentially become more powerful than any single Fairilu in the magic department. That’s what I’m going with at least.

Psssh, she’s faking it.

I still don’t think Lily’s character really needed to be introduced this season of Stars, but she probably got her first decent episode this week. The positive thing is that the staff finally managed to develop a character without necessarily developing them too far. Sure, Lily realized what was probably her entire dream of establishing her own brand, but at least she didn’t hang up her coat entirely after it. I realize that it really puts her in the same small development boat as the other four main characters, but I think it would have been really easy to just put her in the background with the other second years.

Lily also legitimately recognized Yume (and Rola) as rivals in becoming members of the S4. The relationship between the three had felt fairly one sided up until this point, and it’s probably fair to bring Lily into the mix now that Yume has overcome her previous vice. However, I still can’t shake the idea that it just puts Rola into another tough spot again.

Ice cream during the winter tastes the best.

I would never say that this week’s PriPara is that bad, especially when you compare it against episodes that have happened in the past. But the point is, does there really need to be another team established? PriPara has a lot of teams now that are fighting for screen time, and this week honestly just feels like they threw together some characters they enjoy putting on screen for no real reason. I’m not saying they plan to ever make every team relevant, but you usually attach a specific name for a reason.

Ignoring that, the brief moments of Janis and her interactions with Non Sugar were all very heartwarming. So at least PriPara isn’t doing all wrong at this point in time.

I guess we’ll know for sure whether or not Precure has one or two more episodes in it after next week.
