Little Girl Anime Power Rankings Season 4 – Week 21

In case you don’t check up on news about shows on the rankings, Aikatsu decided to come out with an announcement the evening that I posted last week. As it turns out, Stars will not be joining this year with a third season and instead will be replaced by Aikatsu Friends. I don’t expect any announcements out of Fairilu, but I won’t hold my breath at this point.

You guys do the fighting. I’ll do the cheering.

The first day of February is officially recognized as Precure day in Japan now. So me being late is completely intentional.

2) Kirakira Precure A La Mode – 147 Points
3) Aikatsu Stars! – 141 Points

No breakthroughs just yet.

A Word From the Big Man
Expectations will always have to meet reality eventually.

All that greed is finally catching up with Shuuka.

PriPara followed up last week with the resolution for Garara and Shuuka. The core of the episode didn’t really wander too far from what we’ve been seeing the past few weeks, and I came out pretty satisfied with how it leads up to the final episodes. It puts Shuuka and Garara on the same side as Yui and the gang and only leaves Paku as the one to go rogue.

We also got a small hint that the mascots might finally serve a greater purpose for once. I’m sure this is all leading to a chain of power up episodes for the main three, but at least we might get to see the reasoning as to why Paku is the only mascot in Idol Time that can actually communicate properly.

So we’re just ignoring the teenage girl with a baby? Got it.

This week served as a last ditch effort to add to Ichika’s character and give her some thread of development. It tried to revisit Ichika’s previous dilemma not too long before the finale, but it’s hilariously late. The writers had all series to give Ichika character development, but they really chose not to and decided to edge towards other characters. And I was fine with that because they didn’t try to force Ichika into the picture at any point. So I really don’t understand what caused the sudden change of heart right at the end of the series.

I didn’t really know what to expect from this episode, but this was not a good way to end the series. It was a long shot to attempt a dramatic scenario, and it was spawned from a crisis that felt entirely like a gag. And that’s probably what this episode should have been. A light hearted episode that let the group split up on a high note. I understand they really wanted to show off Cure Yell and, don’t get me wrong, she was probably the best part of the episode. But if you had to write this scenario just so Cure Yell could punch something, then you were better off just saving your energy for the premiere next week.

This is sendou.

What was actually supposed to be a co-development episode between Mahiru and Aria strangely turned into Mahiru passing the teachings of hamon down to Aria. There is actually no other way to describe this episode more accurately than that.

I understand that Mahiru (considering last season) is probably one of the most capable idols to make it into the final top four, but somehow she just doesn’t fit story wise. Mahiru has really been doing her own thing all season, and the only thing that has kept her connected to the Venus Ark is her curiosity concerning Rei. And while I don’t think Aria is necessarily developed enough to make complete sense in the final four, she currently has a lot more story relevance than Mahiru.

My cat ate my Fairilu.

Our favorite fat headed Fairilu stumble into the actual Fairilu world for the first time and get some first class pampering from their bug brethren. It was mostly cute, but there were a lot of heavy story elements that unfortunately played into my joke theory from a few weeks back.

The only thing that will make me angry is if when Sui reveals himself that Ren actually recognizes him. My biggest issue with Fairilu is how Ren is constantly pulling new information out of a hat that he just refused to tell anyone (especially since a lot of it has put others at risk). So if Sui is some long lost brother or doppelganger, I just hope it comes as a surprise to Ren as well.

Wrap-Up
Precure will be the first of the new generation to pop up next week, and we’ll see if it can keep it’s footing and maybe turn things around.
