A Word From the Big Man
I don’t think it was comparable to the bad weeks we’ve had in the past, but it wasn’t the best of weeks either.

Yetis deserve to be stylish too.

PriPara struggled a bit this week due to getting bogged down with too many lives scenes as well as lacking any real direction for the episode. It was actually very similar to what Stars did last week by focusing heavily on one character and there being almost sense of actual competition going on. This episode was not too much more than a glance back at how much Yui has done for her fellow female classmates. And while that’s not a bad episode concept, it was meshed in with a lot of other events.

I think I would have either liked to see it broken in to at least two episodes, or entirely focused on her rivalry with Shuuka. Shuuka was mostly around to get emotional and light the fire of events, but her relevance after that was particularly small. They could have actually skipped her live scene entirely and it would have not affected the episode in the least. I didn’t hate the episode, but it lacked the same strength as the previous two that came before it.

If only all parents could be this enthusiastic.

Precure gives practical lessons in child rearing. Actually, the biggest thing this episode chose to do was expose to Hana’s family the fact that she is secretly helping rear a stranger’s child. And they took it amazingly well. I’m not sure about Hana’s dad, but if I found out my daughter was secretly helping a young father babysit his child, then I would be a little uneasy. And given how Hana’s dad is three times the size of a normal man, I’m also surprised Harry wasn’t cowering in fear sitting across from him.

The episode is highly comparable to last week so, since nothing this week did any better, it’s not too strange for Precure to take the top spot again.

I’ll miss these one frame shots of Ako looking silly.

Stars jumps back to Mahiru again to set her up for her loss. The episode was actually very similar to what they did with Rei last week and essentially a better version of what PriPara was trying to do this week. And, while it may not sound like it, I did enjoy the episode.

Mahiru has definitely been an odd character as far as Stars goes as whole, and she is the most heavily focused character outside of Yume. So it was necessary that she get one last hurrah of an episode before the series comes to close. And that is really what this episode felt like. It’s the first episode that makes it feel like we’re approaching a series finale. So hopefully Stars maintains that tone going forwards or we’re in for a really bumpy landing.

Fairilu is doing weird things with holidays again.

Lip gets the full job explanation of what being a Fairilu Diva actually means and it led to a very, very slow episode. It was a very necessary episode, but there was something about it that just felt incredibly dead. And it was probably just because a good chunk of the episode was just watching Lip fly from location to location and echoing the same statements over and over.

Fairilu could have probably used the rest of the cast in a better way this episode, particularly Rose. Rose was the one friend that could sympathize with Lip during the first season, but she really took no action this time around. They probably should have taken the time to isolate the two together rather than just having Lip wander so aimlessly and Rose worrying about her on the sidelines. It would have at least added a little bit of action and character interaction to an otherwise dry episode.

Wrap-Up
Stars and PriPara are nearing their series finales, so we’ll see who manages to pull off the smoother landing.
